In Memoriam: Steven “Steve” Turelli
“The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Steve is his one-liner “A bee named Lee pee’d on me!” He was a very special friend to me and I don’t think I will ever get over the fact that he was taken from us so soon. I think of him often and miss him SO MUCH!”
“My first memory of Steve is in the second grade. I remember he had a rock collection, and one day he brought some in for show-and-tell. One of the rocks was a geode, cut in half to reveal a lightning-shaped streak of quartz slashed across the face of the cut. I was so fascinated with that rock. After he shared the rocks with the class, Steve walked over to my desk and handed me the geode and told me I could have it. What a sweet and thoughtful gesture – in second grade! I’m sure that rock was one of his treasures, and he let me keep it. You know what? I still have that rock, and I still think of Steve every time I look at it.
My last memory of Steve is at Highline. I didn’t see him often as we didn’t have any classes together, but he always had a smile for me. One day towards the end of our senior year, I saw him somewhere on campus, and as we walked past each other he looked at me with that smile and said hello for the first time in ages. Not much later, I heard the tragic news that Steve had left us…”
